Welcome to theDenora.com
(Yes, it’s spelled correctly. No, it’s not Deborah.)
I’m Denora. One word, three syllables, no one else on the planet with the same name — which means you’re in the right place.
I’m a precision baker, a decent cook, an avid reader, and an introvert who’d rather type than talk. I live in Southern California, I’m raising two hilarious humans, and I have very strong opinions about cream cheese brands, sports teams, and the audacity of boxed cake mix.
Why this site exists:
Because I got tired of scrolling past someone’s Great Aunt Hilda’s dream vacation to the Caribbean just to find out how much butter goes in the mashed potatoes. If you came here for a recipe, you’ll get the recipe — no life story required, no “jump to recipe” button needed. The personality is IN the instructions, not blocking them.
I test everything I post. Multiple times. I keep notebooks with corrections and adjustments. I once ran a blind taste test at work with comment cards and controls, because apparently that’s the kind of person I am. If it’s here, it works. If it doesn’t work, I haven’t posted it yet.
What you’ll find:
The Kitchen — Recipes. Tested, opinionated, and written the way I’d explain them if you were standing next to me (minus the swearing) (okay, maybe not minus the swearing).
The Library — Book recommendations for people who read too fast and need their next fix.
Fair warning: I’m sarcastic, direct, and an acquired taste. If that’s your thing, welcome home. If not, Aunt Hilda’s blog is probably more your speed. No hard feelings.
Come in. Look around. Try the mashed potatoes.
