The Life List – Part 3

Part 1 Part 2

  • Try all types of Bowling: Tenpin, Ninepin, Fivepin, Duckpin, and Candlepin – It’s no secret that I love bowling, so I want to expand my horizons and try all 5 major types.
  • Get my name in the credits of a movie – I know someone with his name in the credits of a movie, and I thought, why not?
  • Own my own business – I’ve thought about this a great deal lately, what with my not working and all, but I can’t find something I’m passionate enough about to start my own business. Unless I can somehow have a Bejeweled Blitz store?
  • Bake fresh bread once a week for a year – I’ve baked fresh bread on a number of occasions, and it seems like there are very few smells that make me as happy as freshly baked bread.
  • Take pictures with all of my friends - While trying to fill my picture frames with pictures, I discovered that I have very few shots of me with the people I love. I’m fixing that.
  • Make ice cream from scratch – For years I’ve wanted an old fashioned ice cream maker, or at the very least, the ice cream attachment that goes with my mixer. How awesome would it be to make your own ice cream?
  • Learn how to play softball & play for a full season – A good portion of my friends play softball together once a week, and it sounds like so much fun. I, however, have never played softball and have no idea how different it is from baseball. I used to be athletic once, and I think I might actually have a chance at being decent. Of course, I’d have to get on a team that’s ok with not winning, because there’s also a good chance I’ll suck.
  • Have a signature dish that’s requested at family or friend events – You all know someone who makes that one dish that people love (Donald’s is Spinach Dip, for some weird reason). I want to have one of those dishes. Of course, that means I’ll have to let other people taste my food…maybe this wasn’t a great idea.
  • Attend a taping of Craig Ferguson’s show – I love him. LOVE. I only wish he was on earlier so I could enjoy him more often. He’s just hilarious, once you learn to understand the accent.
  • Host a Beans tournament in my backyard, complete with food and prizes – Beans is a bean bag toss game that’s popular amongst my group of friends (also called Cornhole, but Beans sounds nicer). It can get quite competitive, depending on who plays (you know who you are), but it’s a whole lot of fun.

The Life List – Part 2

The Life List – Part 1 can be found here.

  • Own a home – It often bothers me that I’m almost 31 years old and I’ve never owned a home. Not even a condo. I’ve been a renter all my adult life. I know it’s not that big a deal, that I’m not alone, but still, it bothers me. So I’m putting it on my life list. Because dammit, I WILL accomplish this.
  • Fill all my picture frames with pictures – I love picture frames. Collage frames, stand alone frames, black, silver, or colorful frames. I have a collection of frames. And yet, only half of them have pictures in them. I realized, after trying to fill some of my larger collage frames, that I just don’t have that many pictures of my friends and family. So I’ve been trying to take more pictures, so I have more to print out. But, since I hate having pictures taken of me, I find it hard to force others to stand still while I get a picture of them. I’m trying to work on that. (So if you have a favorite picture of you, send it to me! Then I don’t have to do the awkward “Can I take a picture of you, please?” thing, and everyone is happy.)
  • Train For and run a 5K – I’m not trying to kid anyone: I’m fat. I’m not in great shape. I constantly start and stop exercise routines. If there was a way to exercise my body by only using my mind, I’d be super thin. Sadly, that doesn’t work. So, since I’m going to try hard to make this life list happen, I’m going to make myself put this on the list, even though I know it’ll be tough. If anyone wants to join me, I’ll be happy to have you.
  • Send 1000 postcards – Since I joined Postcrossing, I have exchanged postcards with people from many countries, and I want to continue doing that. I love checking the mail every day to see if something new has arrived, almost as much as I like dropping off a stack of postcards at the post office.
  • Take a ride in a hot air balloon - I’m afraid of heights. This isn’t a huge secret. But I want part of my life list to be things that challenge me to do something different. Hot air balloons are beautiful, so I’m picking that to try and conquer (or at least fight back at) my fear of heights.
  • Watch ET: The Extra Terrestrial from start to finish – It’s a well documented fact that I’m irrationally terrified of this stupid movie. But someday I want to get past that and be a normal adult who can watch a kid movie without having an anxiety attack.
  • Learn to snowboard – A huge chunk of my friends are snowboarders or skiers, and they always make it sound like such a great time. I’ve seen snow all of twice in my entire life, but I still think it would be fun to try. You won’t see me in the Olympics any time soon ever, but I’ll at least give it a shot.
  • Have a lovely garden – I love flowers. All sizes, shapes, and colors. I’ve tried growing some of my own with a little success. Some have made it, and some didn’t. But I’m learning which thrive best in my area, and someday I’ll have a fabulous garden with lots of lovely plants and flowers.
  • See a play on Broadway – It’s no secret that I love going to the theater. I’ve seen many different Broadway plays on tour, but I’ve never seen one actually on Broadway.
  • Spend a week without electronics – Specifically a television, computer, laptop, phone, or anything that keeps me connected to the world. I want a week away from everything.

It’s taken me quite a while to come up with just 20 things to put on my list. What do you want to put on your list? Maybe we can trade ideas!

The Life List – Part 1

It’s common knowledge throughout a good portion of the blog world that Maggie has this fantastic life list that she’s come up with, and now Intel is helping to sponsor it so she can cross off some of the things on her list. When I first saw her list, I was in awe of how grand and large her plans were. Donate a million dollars to charity? Be conversational in seven languages? Those are some lofty goals! But she seems so positive that she’ll be able to do it.  I’d always casually made comments about how I wanted to do “this that or the other thing” before I died, but I’d never put much stock into actually completing them.  But still, it’s an idea I’ve been toying around with for a long while, so I’m going to try it.  It’s a little daunting to try and come up with 100 things to do, so I’m going to start with 10, and add to it as time goes on. Some will be easy to check off, others will require work over time. But all are things I truly would like to accomplish in my lifetime.

  • Visit Ireland – I have always had a strange fascination with Ireland. I can’t read enough about it, whether it be fiction or non-fiction. I could look at pictures of the country all day long and be completely content. It’s almost something I need to do, rather than want.
  • Audition for Wheel of Fortune – Since I was a kid I’ve loved watching this show. I’ve always been good at it and I really enjoy word puzzles. Why not?
  • Ride a Mechanical Bull – Don’t ask me why, but I’m dying to try it. But any time the opportunity presents, I chicken out. I have a fear of looking stupid in front of other people. Someday, though!
  • Take a Compliment Graciously – I can’t. I just plain can’t do it. I make a sarcastic remark, I turn it around on someone else, I plain deny it. I am just not good at receiving compliments. It’s something I’ve been working on for a while, but I’m still not there yet. Even if I’m not saying it aloud, I’m thinking it, which is just as bad.
  • Buy Fresh Flowers Once a Week for a Year – I love flowers. LOVE them. It’s one of the few stereotypical “girly” things about me. I wanted to have a garden full of beautiful flowers, but it turns out I’m not a great gardener. So buying them not only gets me the flowers I want, but it also helps someone else keep their job!
  • Get Glass Seats to an NHL Game – We have season tickets (not on the glass) to the local ECHL minor league hockey team, and I love them. But the NHL is different. It’s the big boys. I want to watch future hall of famers from inches away. I want to be scared when a puck comes flying and hits the glass inches away from my face. Crazy? Yes. I’m ok with that.
  • Take a Nap in a Park Under a Tree – I love the outdoors. I’m not a big hiker, or biker, or adrenaline junkie, but I love being outside. I also love to sleep. What could be better than sleeping outside?
  • Be a Good Friend – This is ongoing. I know I can be a better friend than I am. I often leave it to my friends to initiate contact when it’s been a while, and I need to be better about that.
  • Cook a 5 Course Meal from Scratch – I am queen of the microwave and goddess of the boxed meals. But I am terrible at cooking. I am constantly buying cookbooks as if that will somehow give me talent. I really want to take a cooking class to finally be able to cook something that doesn’t require just adding water.
  • Provide Entertainment to Others – Whether by making jokes with my friends, or writing fun stuff on the blog, I love to make other people laugh and be happy.

There. Those are the first 10 on my life list. I think that’s a good start, don’t you?
